Free CarCare101 checklist

Here’s your free 7-mistake checklist.

Read these practical fixes before you prep, apply or level your ceramic coating. They are designed to prevent high spots, trapped paint defects and avoidable water spotting.

7 practical fixes Beginner friendly Printable PDF
  1. 01

Coating paint that is not fully clean

Fix: Wash thoroughly, remove iron contamination and clay only when the paint still feels rough. A coating locks in whatever you leave behind.

  2. 02

Expecting coating to hide swirls or faded paint

Fix: Inspect in bright, direct light first. Polish oxidation, haze and visible defects before coating because protection will not repair damaged paint.

  3. 03

Leaving polish oils on the surface

Fix: After correction, use a proper panel-prep step and fresh microfiber towels. The surface should be cool, dry and residue-free.

  4. 04

    Applying too much coating

Fix: Use a thin, even layer. More product does not create more protection; it makes leveling harder and increases the chance of streaks.

  5. 05

Working an area that is too large

Fix: Work one manageable panel section at a time and follow the product’s flash-time instructions. Temperature and humidity can change the timing.

  6. 06

    Missing high spots while leveling

Fix: Check each section from several angles with strong lighting and level it immediately with clean towels before moving to the next section.

  7. 07

Letting water or chemicals touch the coating too early

Fix: Keep the vehicle dry during the stated initial cure period and avoid washing until the product instructions say it is safe.

Paint-readiness check

A coating protects the finish you already have.

If the paint is glossy, smooth and mostly defect-free after washing and decontamination, you can continue to final prep. If it looks faded, chalky, heavily swirled or scratched, correct it first instead of sealing those defects under a coating.
